Tickets on sale for Kanawha library fundraising event

CHARLESTON, W.Va. -- Tickets are on sale for the Friends of The Library Foundation of Kanawha County annual fundraising event, "A Tisket, A Tasket ... A Literary Basket," which will be held at 6 p.m. on April 20 at NiSource Gas Transmission. Attendees will have the opportunity to bid on dozens of baskets with a literary theme.

There are dozens of baskets in the auction, including a sternwheeler cruise basket, Charleston Light Opera Guild baskets, a Mardi Gras Casino and Resort basket and a Lewisburg Ghost Tour basket.

The Friends are collecting baskets, items to be included in baskets or cash donations for the event, which raised more than $31,000 for the library last year. With proceeds from the 2012 event, the Friends of the Library Foundation provided support for the summer reading program, sponsored children's authors at the West Virginia Book Festival and purchased Summer Library Club shirts for nearly 2,000 children who completed the reading program.

Ticket options include a $30 Required price ($35 at the door), a $50 Desired price for those who want to provide more support for the library, or a $100 Inspired price to help fund more programs for children and families at KCPL. Purchase tickets online at, or contact Lois Payne at 304-343-4646 ext. 283.

The event is sponsored by Kanawha Valley Advertising, Karen and John Lukens, Steve and Katy White, The Calwell Practice and KISRA. For information, call Terry Wooten at 304-343-4646, ext. 287.
