Approaching 81, reluctant retiree Purushottam Lal Verma, a native of India, closed his practice this spring after more than four decades as a Kanawha Valley pediatrician. Equipped with a diploma in child health from the Royal College of Physicians in England and frustrated by the poor quality of care in India, he set out for America aboard the Queen Elizabeth II in 1966.
